Image description: A black and white photo depicting four women, the members of divorcer. They are standing in front of an oversized scuplture of a fairytale book. The book is open and has the phrase "Happily ever after" written on the pages in old fashion calligraphy. Behind them is a large tree and they are surrounded by bushes. The people have light skin and dark hair, they are all smiling and looking at the camera.

Formed in a booth at Duffins Donuts, Divorcer is an experimental pop group based out of so-called Vancouver. Featuring members of bands such as Fake Fruit, Underpass, Tough Customer and Luvgoon, their songs are written collaboratively, and are often tongue in cheek takes on real struggles, playful scowls at the evils of the world. While there is no one genre that defines their songwriting - their influences include bands such as the Raincoats, Girls at Our Best, Bush Tetras, and Shonen Knife.

Over the the past couple years, on top of living through a pandemic, members have been busy either being a California rockstar, raising a toddler, running a health clinic and becoming a tattoo artist, or going to theatre school. As time and health precautions have allowed, they have slowly returned to the comfy, wacky realm of Divorcer, chipping away at living room recordings to share with the world. Their latest release, Nutty Grotto, is a window into the members’ own mental cavities. At times disturbing, delightful, and even catchy, the sophomore release delivers surprising melodies: the little ditties written in outhouses or discovered while communing with the squirrels across the street.

For fans of: Looney tunes, peeing in the woods, acorns.
